Preparation Matters

Electrolysis outcomes improve when the skin is properly prepared and hair is visible in its natural growth phase.

DO

  • Drink a lot of water during the full course of your treatment sessions and keep the treatment area well moisturized for best hair removal results.  If water is a struggle, try adding electrolytes to your regimen.

    Try avoiding chocolate, caffeine and alcohol 24-hrs before treatment to promote further hydration & reduce sensitivity.

  • Always arrive to your appointment in good hygiene and free of heavy product application. Numbing creams are ok.

  • If you have medical conditions affecting skin, circulation, hormones, or hair growth, consult your physician before beginning treatment.

    Complete all health forms honestly even if you don’t feel it’s relevant. Transparency supports safe and effective care.

    If you are a first time client, be sure to complete your health history form before you arrive.

  • For precise treatment, hair should be long enough for us to clearly identify its direction of growth and comfortably remove it with tweezers following treatment—without placing unnecessary pressure on the surrounding skin.

    As a general guideline, allow hair to grow to approximately 1/16"–1/8" (1.5–3 mm) before your appointment.

DO NOT

  • Discontinue prescription-strength retinoids and other topical prescription-based actives at least one week prior to treatment AND for the duration of your electrolysis treatments.

    These products are harsh and cause skin trauma on their own, so when combined with electrolysis it can cause long-term skin damage.

  • Avoid makeup, deodorants, heavy creams, or oils on the treatment area prior to your appointment with exception to numbing creams.

  • Avoid sun exposure for at least 48-72 hours before treatment to prevent unnecessary hyperpigmentation and skin sensitivity.

  • Hair must be clearly visible for accurate insertion.

    If bleaching between sessions, allow regrowth of approximately 1/16"–1/8" (1.5–3 mm) before your next appointment.

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • If you have a low sensitivity threshold, you may want to consider the following:

    1. Apply topical numbing cream as directed prior to your appointment.

    2. Over-the-counter pain relief may be taken as directed on the label.

    3. Avoid scheduling treatment during menstruation and other hormone related shifts.

  • For dense areas such as beard or bikini, shave 3–5 days prior to your first session (based on regrowth rate).

    Hair should measure approximately 1/16"–1/8" (1.5–3 mm) at the time of treatment.

Your appointment is guided by strict sanitation standards, individualized treatment planning, and a commitment to your comfort and safety.

  • All clients are required to wash their hands before treatment can begin.

    All probes are sterile, single-use and discarded after every session.

    Each appointment includes sterile tweezers, a sterile probe tip, and clean cotton.

  • You may be asked to gently stretch the skin to assist with insertion accuracy and to reposition your body to improve precision and preserve.

    Positioning also maximizes your electrologist’s productivity while reducing the risk of fatigue or injury.

  • Electrolysis is progressive. Sensitivity often decreases over time as you get more comfortable with the process.

    We work close to your tolerance level while maintaining safe insertion technique. Shorter interval sessions will be recommended if your discomfort is too great.

    Relaxation techniques, conversation, or quiet focus may help pass the time comfortably.

  • Questions don't end when treatment begins. Feel free to ask questions throughout your appointment—we're happy to educate while we work so you can make the most of both your time and your investment.

  • For facial and neck treatments, avoid ponytails or tight hairstyles. Wearing your hair down allows you to keep your head comfortably aligned and still during treatment while helping prevent unnecessary neck strain.

Protect the Skin

Preserve the Results

Post-treatment care supports healing, minimizes irritation, and protects skin integrity.

DO

  • Use witch hazel, diluted tea tree oil, or aloe vera gel to calm the skin.

    Sylicidic acid patches can help prevent whitehead pimples but wait a day or two before applying.

    Other products that help soothe the skin after treatment

    • Gentle enough for sensitive skin

    • Can be sprayed immediately after treatment

    — Colloidal Oatmeal Gel or Cream

    Excellent for sensitive or reactive skin.

    — Panthenol (Vitamin B5)

    Benefits:

    • Supports healing

    • Reduces dryness

    • Restores the skin barrier

    — Centella asiatica (Cica)

    Increasingly popular in dermatology.

    Benefits:

    • Calms inflammation

    — Hyaluronic Acid Serum

    • Rehydrates

    • Reduces tightness

    Should be followed with a moisturizer if used at home.

    🧴 Ceramide Moisturizer

    Especially helpful later that evening or the following day.

    Benefits:

    • Locks in moisture

    • Helps reduce dryness

  • Apply a ice or a cold compress as needed to minimize swelling.

    Anti-inflammatory tablets can also help when used as directed.

  • Book your next session in alignment with your treatment plan. Consistency supports permanent resolution.

  • A post-treatment galvanic or continuous current may be applied by your electrologist to restore and calm the skin.
